Sheila Thompson is a Toronto Beach-based felt artist, citizen scientist, and at heart a biogeographer. Sheila’s medium is fine wool and silk felt created using the wet felting method – fibres are her “paint”. The use of strong colour, intricate surface detail, silk finishes and the incorporation of unusual organic materials, paper and Japanese fibres are characteristic of her work. Her portfolio is evolving to include more abstract works in addition to her impressionistic landscapes. She is an active member of the several textile associations and Artists’ Network. She exhibits in a number of shows in Ontario.
